Pet Labrador stabbed to death in Melbourne

Wilbur was a quiet, non-aggressive dog and much loved pet.

A pet Labrador has been found stabbed to death in Melbourne’s south-east, [ABC News reports.]

The owner, who had last seen the dog, Wilbur, alive at 7:45am on Wednesday, returned to his Wheelers Hill home later that day to find Wilbur with 19 cuts and wounds.

Police say they do not know why the six-year-old dog had been attacked, and that there appeared to be nothing stolen from the home and no signs of forced entry.

“The owner told us that Wilbur was a quiet dog who trained as an airport sniffer dog but became a much loved pet when he failed the test,” Detective Senior Constable Warren Atkinson said in a statement.

Anyone with any information about the crime has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Rest in peace, Wilbur.
