Sweet elderly man buys stranger’s baby a Christmas gift to honour his late wife

This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year.

In an act the embodies the true spirit of Christmas, an elderly man has reached out to a mother and asked if he could buy her baby daughter a gift, in memory of his late wife.

This past week British woman Abigail Crewe was doing a spot of shopping at her local Asda when she stuck up a polite conversation with an older gentleman who started making a sweet fuss over her four-month-old daughter in the Christmas gift aisle.

To the mother’s surprise the man said he wanted to buy a toy for the baby, but the mother was quick to say his generous offer wasn’t necessary. The old man then went on to explain that this would be the second Christmas he’d spend alone since losing his wife 18-months ago and he wanted to buy someone a gift.

Moved by the man’s story Ms Crewe agreed to the gift and her daughter was blessed with a cute Minnie Mouse toy because the man said his late wife loved Minnie.

“This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year when she asks what Christmas is all about,” wrote Ms Crewe in a Facebook post detailing the sweet encounter.

Adding: “What an amazing man.”

Ms Crewe also shared a photo of the trio smiling on her post which has gone viral and been shared more than 36 thousand times since Tuesday.
