A woman from a small town in Alaska, USA, is bringing some much needed cheer and smiles to little girls who lose their hair to cancer treatments, by knitting wigs inspired by Disney characters The Mirror reports.
Former nurse Holly Christensen first made a Rapunzel wig for a friend’s daughter going through chemotherapy, and after it was so positively received, decided it was an easy way to help other girls who lose their hair to cancer treatment.
Setting up The Magic Yarn Project with friend Bree Hitchcock, Holly and her crew of volunteers aim to create “soft and beautiful yarn wigs for little warriors who are bravely battling cancer.”
Crocheting the wool into hats and then transforming them into amazing, flowing locks, the wigs are made with the softest yarn so as to not irritate sensitive and bare scalps. The gorgeous creations are also embellished with gems, crocheted flowers and ribbons, and are beautiful enough for any princess!
The wigs – which include Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Rapunzel, and The Little Mermaid – are free to recipient families in hospitals across the USA.
The Magic Yarn Project has set up a Go Fund Me page to help pay for supplies and shipping costs.
