Real Life

John F. Kennedy’s only grandson Jack Schlossberg is going places, FYI

He's the breath of fresh air who will restore your faith in American politics - JFK would be mighty proud.
Jack Schlossberg

At just 24 Jack Schlossberg puts us all to shame.

The Yale graduate’s pinky finger has probably achieved more than most would in a lifetime.

But before we beat our under-achieving selves up – it’s important to remember he comes from the best stock in the US, the Kennedy family, otherwise known as the closest thing Americans have to a royal family.

Last week, Jack made a splash on the A-list social scene after he accompanied his mum, who is JKF and Jackie O’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy to the Met Gala in New York.

And it turns out the late president’s grandson is following in his footsteps in more ways than one. Here’s 6 things you need to know about your new obsession, Jack Schlossberg…

1. He’s pretty tight with Obama

When I was in my early ’20s, I was patting myself on the back for not burning my dinner.

Our mate Jack on the other hand is just casually rubbing shoulders with former President Barack Obama and presenting him with big old medals.

Earlier this week, the young gun delivered a powerful speech on Barack’s legacy as he awarded him with the JFK Profile in Courage Award in Boston.

“[JFK] inspired a generation to enter public service and to ask what they could do for their country. President Barack Obama inspired me in the same way. My life changed in 2008 because a young candidate was fired up and ready to go, and said that ‘Yes we can,'” he began his address.

“Without Barack Obama I might still be sitting on my couch eating Doritos and watching sports.”

2. He’s tipped to go into politics

Just like his grandfather, his political flair was evident from a young age. When he was in year eight he spearheaded not-for-profit organisation ReLight New York, which raised thousands of dollars to provide fluorescent lights to disadvantaged communities. Umm, what a legend!

During his time at Yale, where he studied history, he penned think pieces for the Yale Herald and the Yale Daily News.

He’s also written for Time and The Washington Post with political commentators pointing out he shares very similar stances to Democratic leader John F. Kennedy.

“Politics definitely interests me. I’m most interested in public service. I think that’s something that I got from being part of my family, which is such an honor,” he’s told CNN in 2012.

3. Harvard’s next on his to-do list

You’re not a Kennedy unless you have multiple degrees under your belt and Jack is about to head to Harvard Law School.

Harvard is a Kennedy favourite with JFK and his mum Caroline both graduating from the prestigious university.

But Jack says he’s still figuring out his path.

“I’m in inspired by my family’s legacy of public service, it’s something I’m very proud of. I’m still trying to make my own way and figure things out, stay tuned,” he revealed during a chat on Today.

Jack recently joined his mum on USA’s Today show – there’s no denying he already has the natural charm and swagger of a future leader.

4. He looks just like his late grandfather and uncle

The Kennedy genes run eerily strong in this family.

Jack shares many of the same striking features of both his grandfather and uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., who tragically passed away in a plane crash with his wife Carolyn Bessette in 1999.

“[He] loves being compared to him [JKF Jr.],” an insider told People magazine in 2014.

5. He also has an Aussie doppleganger

Is it just us, or could he pass as radio funnyman Andy Lee’s little brother?

Jack and Andy are cut from the same cloth.

6. His sisters are killing it

Jack has two older sisters and they’re just as accomplished as you’d expect.

Fellow Harvard graduate Rose, 28, is the spitting image of her late grandmother Jackie O and is the mastermind behind the web series, End Times Girls Club.

While Yale graduate Tatiana, 27, is a New York times journalist.

Oh, and their unbelievably smart parents Caroline (author/diplomat/attorney) and Edwin Schlossberg (designer/artist/writer) have been happily married since 1986.

No Kennedy Curse to see here!

Rose Schlossberg, Jack and Tatiana take to the stage at the The 39th Annual Kennedy Center Honours gala in December last year.
