With so many inspiring, fearless and trailblazing women pioneering for equality across the globe each and every day, it’s hard to sum up the weight that women hold in society in just a single day.

It may only be once a year, but International Women’s Day gives us the chance to recognise the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties and best friends who never stop enriching our lives.

Although IWD has been a day dedicated to celebrating women since 1911, the cause has become more widely acknowledged in recent years due to social media and improved gender equality.

But there’s still a long way to go. One in three women still experience physical and/or sexual abuse, women make up just 23.8 per cent of parliaments globally, and there is still a gender pay gap right here in Australia.

To focus on how far we’ve come, keep scrolling to see how our favourite stars are celebrating IWD 2022.

Robert Irwin

Robert showed his allyship in a heartwarming post where he thanked his mother Terri, sister Bindi and niece Grace for being his “biggest role models”.

“For as long as I can remember, most of the the main guiding forces for me growing up have been women. Of course the most significant of which being my Mum,” he wrote alongside this sweet throwback snap with Terri.

“It wasn’t until I grew older that I gained perspective on how unimaginably difficult it would have been to operate a global conservation empire, creating such positive change for the world, and raise two young kids as a single parent.

Robert then heaped praise on Bindi, who he described as “undoubtedly the most kind, protective and generous person” he knows.

“I have never met anyone with the same level of genuine empathy and selflessness coupled with such fierce resolve and courage. If Bindi’s on your team you feel like you can take on the world,” he continued.

Robert went on to praise Bindi’s one-year-old daughter Grace as being part of “the next generation of powerful women”.
