A Reddit user who goes by the pseudonym “Alkikat” created a thread on the social media site to show off her handiwork. Posting images of the finished product as well as a stop motion video of her work in progress, this bride certainly has us admiring her handy skills!
If you feel like following in this bride’s footsteps, you’ll have to be handy with a crochet hook. Alkikat says: “The dress is a pattern I designed with a commonly used pineapple stitch.”
It would also take quite a bit of dedication as the lace dress took her about five months to make on her work commute every day, however the bride says: “I didn't spend much extra time on it. My commute time couldn't be used for anything else anyway.”
It looks like the hard work paid off though as the end result is simply stunning and as the bride points out, it’s much more affordable than investing in couture! “The dress was practically free because I didn't spend much money on it (under $30 for all of the materials including fabric for the lining).”
As well as being more affordable than a pricey bridal gown, it seems much more practical than some complex ivory satin number that will never be worn again. As she says: “The dress is also machine washable (I've washed it several times), doesn't wrinkle or need any special care, and I plan on wearing it again with linings of different colours and with the train bustled up in different ways.”
Good job! Now to dig out our crochet hooks...
