Labor Politician Anna Bligh has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 52-year-old has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after having a tumour removed from a lymph node in her neck last week.

“I am very grateful for the excellent care I have received from the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, and the loving support of my family and friends,” Ms Bligh said.

The mother of two will begin treatment in the next couple of weeks and has asked for privacy as she focuses on her treatment and recovery.

“I am maintaining my positive attitude as I prepare for treatment,” she said.
