Animal cruelty: Woman charged after allegedly throwing cat from third-floor balcony

WARNING: DISTURBING VIDEO.

A teenager has reportedly been charged with animal cruelty related offences after video emerged of her allegedly throwing a cat off a third-floor balcony in Newark.

According to NJ.com, Tikeemah J. Lassiter, of Clinton, was arrested on Saturday after the 19-year-old allegedly posted a video to Instagram on Thursday showing a cat being dangerously hurled out a third-floor balcony as onlookers giggled and asked: ‘Is it dead?’

In the horrifying video the cat – which didn’t belong to Lassiter – survives the fall and lands on its feet on the pavement. It was reportedly found on the street by a concerned neighbour who took the animal to a vet.

While the person throwing the cat isn’t showing their face NJ reports Lassiter stands accused of the cruel act.

The cat is now believed to be in the care of the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, an agency that investigates incidents of animal cruelty.

NJSPCA President Steve Shatkin issued the following statement on Sunday saying, “This was horrible display of animal cruelty and very disturbing video to watch.”

The investigation continues.
