Mum saves daughter from park abduction

"I saw a woman heading towards the gates. My daughter was with her, covered in a red towel.”

A UK mother has spoken out about the terrifying attempted abduction of her five-year-old daughter at a local park.

The mother, aged 32, was playing at the park, Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich, with her two children on Monday when the incident occurred.

Recounting to The Mirror, she revealed that she was tending to her one-year-old son when she realised that she couldn’t see her daughter in the nearby splash pad area where she had been playing.

Feeling panicked, the mother spent a minute frantically searching for her before spotting the little girl covered in a red towel, being led towards the exit by another woman.

“I had only glanced away for a few seconds. When I looked again at the splash pad area I couldn’t see my daughter. I began panicking and was looking around. I then saw a woman heading towards the gates,” said the mother, “My daughter was with her, covered in a red towel.”

Confronting the woman, the mother asked her where she was taking her daughter.

“I ran over to her. I said ‘what do you think you are doing?’ She said ‘she was freezing and I was trying to find you’,” she continued, “My daughter had a tip-top drink in her hand which the woman had given her. I said to her ‘You were leading her away towards the exit’.”

“I grabbed my daughter. I was so angry,” she said, “I then asked my daughter why she didn’t point to where I was. My daughter said. ‘I did mommy. I could see you I pointed and told her where you were’.”

Local police have commented on the case, encouraging those with information to come forward.

“We believe there were a number of people about at the time,” said Detective Inspector Ronan Tyrer, of West Midlands Police CID, “The child is safe and officers are continuing with their inquiries and checking local CCTV in a bid to identify the woman.”
