A three-year-old girl has been shot dead inside her home in Lalor Park, western Sydney.

Neighbours recounted the horrific moment they heard a “loud” bang then hysterical screening. Witnesses say they heard a man shout “she’s dead… she’s shot herself”.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene but the little girl was found dead with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Another neighbour says they heard a woman – thought to be the toddler’s mother – shouting “I hate you, I hate you, he killed my baby girl… rot in hell.”

“She was screaming it was his fault because he had a gun in the house,” a neighbour told The Daily Telegraph.

7 News reports the toddler was at home with her mother and three brothers, aged between three and eight.

Police confirmed both the child’s father and uncle were nearby at the time of incident but not in the house. They are thought to be investigating whether the girl’s gunshot wound may have been self-inflicted.

They are not holding anybody in custody this morning.
