Teens rescued after being blown 1.5km on inflatable swan

Four people were rescued from inflatable pool toys

Two teenage girls have been rescued after the inflatable pool swan toy they were riding on was blown away from shore in an Auckland harbour.

The girls were riding on the toy when the wind pushed them more than 1.5km off-shore in the Manukau Harbour on Tuesday afternoon and a boat and jet ski were required to rescue them, TVNZ reports.

It wasn’t the one incident that day – another two people were saved after their inflatable pool toy overturned with them inside in Bayswater Marina in the Waitemata Harbour.

New Zealand police have warned against taking the toys to sea.

“These are not boats and should not be used outside of a small sheltered swimming pool,” said Sergeant John Saunders of the police maritime unit.
