Student criticised after ‘joke’ claim that she’s Madeleine McCann goes viral

A student’s ‘joke’ tweet that she could be Madeleine McCann has gone viral after being shared over 30,000 times.

Harriet Brookes text her friends after discovering that she had a mark on both her eye and her leg which appeared to match the missing girl’s.

But despite the laughs amongst friends, many Facebook users were riled up by the post.

“Are you even Madeline or are you just joking messing with peoples head [sic],” one user hit back.

While Harriet was kidding, the likeness is unrealistic as Madeleine would be 14 years old today, while she is at University.

It’s been a decade since Maddie disappeared from an apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal. Her parents Kate and Gerry recently gave a devastating interview to the BBC, to mark the anniversary.

In the past ten years, there have been many theories and false leads in the search for Madeleine but what actually happened to the little girl still remains a mystery.
