Auburn deputy mayor suspended from office

Salim Mehajer has been suspended for four months

Controversial Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has been suspended from office for four months.

The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal has found him guilty of failing to disclose all of his financial interests, 7News reports.

Auburn City Council was last week given 14 days to explain why it should not be suspended after the NSW government announced a public inquiry into the council.

The inquiry is investigating allegations that some members of the Council misused their position to benefit themselves or their relatives.

Mr Mehajer rose to fame after hosting a lavish wedding, which saw him close the streets to residents for the celebration.
