Reports: Alledged Salt Creek attacker may have killed before

The 59-year-old man who allegedly abducted, raped and attacked two backpackers last week may be linked to a murder in 1995.

Police are investigating a lead the 59-year-old man who allegedly attacked two women at Salt Creek, south-east of Adelaide earlier this month is linked to a 20-year-old cold case.

Seven News reports in 1995 Victoria Cafasso, an Italian tourist was found dead on a beach in Tasmania.

Ms Cafasso, 20, was stabbed to death on a deserted beach on the state’s east-coast.

She was found partially naked in shallow waters.

Police are investigating similarities in the crimes.

The 59-year-old alleged attacker, whose name has been suppressed, is due to face court on April 10.

It was reported the man met two backpackers in their 20s and was camping with them in Salt Creek when he attacked.

One of the women ran from a camp site between sand dunes naked and bleeding in an attempt to escape the man’s alleged attack.

She raised the alarm with nearby fisherman and they phoned authorities – who then recovered the second woman.
