A venomous red bellied-black snake was found curled up underneath a pile of toys in a little girls room in her Peaks Crossing home, south-west of Brisbane, on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl’s father had spotted first seen the 1.2-metre long snake on a windowsill, before it dropped into a box and became lost in the pile of the plush toys.

Snake catcher Andrew Smedley was called in to retrieve the unwanted visitor. A video was captured of Mr Smedley bravely searching through the toys to find the snake. See the video above!

“It’s funny, they said it was her little zoo area. So they got a real life animal in the zoo,” Mr Smedley told the ABC.

Yikes! Snake Catcher Andrew Smedley found the red-bellied Black snake resting with the little girl’s toys.

Despite being one of the most frequently encountered snakes on the east coast of Australia, deaths from the venomous snake are generally rare as the snake is shy, says The Australian Museum and will only deliver a serious bite if severely provoked.

With that said, Mr Smedley notes a bite from a red bellied-black snake will make you sick and put you in hospital, particularly a child due to their size. He also said anyone who encounters a snake in their home they should get out, and contain the snake to the room it is in by closing the door and placing a towel across the gap under the door before calling a snake catcher.

“If they can contain [the snake], it makes it a hell of a lot easier. You know it’s in there and you can definitely catch it,” he said.
