Perth woman allegedly bashed to death by partner

Margaret Indich was never expected to live past a few months. She was born with a hole in her heart and when she fought her way into childhood, she was dubbed a miracle baby.

On Wednesday, the Perth woman was allegedly brutally bashed by her partner of 18 years and later died in hospital.

When paramedics arrived at the 38-year-old’s house, the man inside was reportedly acting so aggressively he wouldn’t let them inside.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the man had disappeared. After an eight-hour manhunt, he was arrested five kilometres away in Riverdale.

Ms Indich’s mother is distraught by her “princess” daughter’s death and told reporters she couldn’t believe her daughter was gone.

“She was so strong. She was beautiful,” Ms Indich’s uncle, Harry Nannup, added.

“She was a special angel.”

Devastatingly, this is the second alleged domestic violence death in Perth in under a week.

A 19-year-old Mandurah mother was allegedly murdered by the father of her baby just days ago.

Christine D’Cruz had given birth to her daughter just six weeks ago and her partner Junior Fayiah Carlos, 26, has been charged with murder.

While Australia is famed for its stringent gun laws and relatively low crime rate, our national average holds steady at one woman a week killed by a partner or former partner.

Destroy the Joint, a Facebook group dedicated to reporting the female victims of violence in Australia, reported 49 women died in Australia last year. While they do not confine their death count to deaths attributed as domestic or family violence, they’ve found that at least 75 per cent of the cases reported between 2012 and 2016, the victim knew her alleged killer.
