Olympic hero arrested with shotgun after domestic dispute

The dual gold medalist was more than three times over the legal limit when he was found in his car with a shotgun and 150 rounds of ammunition.

Target shooter Michael Diamond has been arrested and charged with high range drink driving and gun offences following a domestic dispute with his brother John.

The dual gold medallist was allegedly found by his car in Shoal Bay on Saturday night with a shotgun and more than 150 rounds of ammunition, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Diamond reportedly refused a roadside breath test and was taken to the nearest police station where his blood alcohol level was found to be 0.159, more than three times over the legal driving limit.

He was charged with high range drink driving, handling a firearm while under the influence and not keeping his firearm in a secure location. His licence was also suspended. He has been granted bail and is due to appear in court in June.

Diamond’s brother took out a restraining order against him the following day.

The incident may also see Diamond ruled out of the upcoming 2016 Rio Games, which were to have been his eighth consecutive Olympics.
