Mother urges son to turn himself in over sex attacks

As the woman tried to back further away, he pulled her in tighter, grabbed her between the legs and groped her.

A concerned mother urged her own son to turn himself into police after she saw CCTV footage of him on the evening news, as the man wanted for questioning over a sex attack.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Steven Robert Rundell’s mother told her son to call police after video footage emerged, showing him harassing a young woman in Kings Cross.

A Sydney court heard that Rundell, 37, harassed another woman in similar circumstances just two days later. He now faces a possible jail term.

Rundell told his Mum he would hand himself in. The Herald says he “admitted to forcibly groping, hugging and kissing a woman as she walked home through Kings Cross.”

“He asked if she wanted a lift home. The woman backed away, saying: “No, thank you, I don’t need a lift home.” He then wrapped his arms around the woman in a tight hug and told her: “You’re really beautiful. Are you sure I can’t offer you a lift home?””

As the woman tried to back further away, he pulled her in tighter, grabbed her between the legs and groped her.

“The court heard Rundell assaulted another woman in similar circumstances only a few days later,” says the SMH report.

He is due to be sentenced next week.
