Mayim Bialik slammed for saying predators like Weinstein left her alone as she’s not ‘perfect 10’

The world is still reeling over the sexual harassment and abuse Harvey Weinstein seemingly got away with for decades.

As more and more reported victims come forward, one actress has come under fire for an ill-timed (and perhaps ill-written!) essay about the “flip-side” of sexual harassment – i.e. being overlooked by predators because you don’t look a certain way.

Big Bang Theory star and child star of Blossom, Mayim Bialik , penned a piece for The New York Times titled ‘Being a Feminist in Harvey Weinstein’s World’ where she describes “the upside of not being a ‘perfect ten.’”

Bialik says she has experienced “the ‘luxury’ of being overlooked and, in many cases, ignored by men in power unless we can make them money.”

She also noted:

“I quickly learned even as a preteen actress that young girls with doe eyes and pouty lips who spoke in a high register were favored for roles by the powerful men who made those decisions.”

Bialik’s comments angered many, with some people suggesting she was victim blaming.

However, Bialik was quick to defend herself, saying her words had been taken out of context:

“I… see a bunch of people have taken my words out of the context of the Hollywood machine and twisted them to imply that God forbid I would blame a woman for her assault based on her clothing or behavior.”

“Anyone who knows me and my feminism knows that’s absurd and not at all what this piece was about. It’s so sad how vicious people are being when I basically live to make things better for women.”
