Lisa Wilkinson supports brekky TV rival Sam Armytage following ‘granny panties’ article

Has 'reporting' really stooped to this level? Disgusting...

Lisa Wilkinson has joined other high profile Aussie women in voicing their fury over a vicious online article which took aim at Sunrise host Sam Armytage and her choice of totally normal underwear.

On Sunday the Daily Mail Australia published paparazzi photographs of the television presenter out and about running errands in Bondi while wearing a white and black striped dress. The pictures showed a faint outline of Sam’s underwear which The Daily Mail saw fit to make a whole news story about.

“Sunrise host Sam Armytage dares to bare with granny panties showing a visible line as she steps out in Sydney… after slamming rumours she’s dating Channel Seven colleagues,” read the headline.

The article also mentioned that “the TV personality’s granny panties showed through the garment with a clearly visible line”

Readers reacted by calling the article harassing, perverted and the epitome of misogyny.

Today’s Lisa Wilkinson was also vocal in her disgust with what was published, intimating it was gutter journalism.

“Has ‘reporting’ really stooped to this level? Disgusting. I feel for you @sam_armytage”

Logie-winning actress Rebecca Gibney was also keen to throw her support behind Sam and posted a picture on her a picture on her Instagram account with a caption complaining that The Daily Mail had also whipped up a “nude selfie” story about her last month.

“So I posted a pic a few weeks ago when I was having a sleep in and reading a book (apparently naked according to an in-depth article pretending to be journalism). Just thought you should know Daily Mail IM WEARING GRANNY PANTS IN THIS SHOT,” she captioned the pic.

Rebecca continued: “For those that don’t know Sam she is a fabulous, funny, intelligent, glorious woman with a great heart AND she’s GORGEOUS. Can we please remind ourselves that people on the Tele deserve a private life? OK — thanks. That is all.”

Julia Morris also gave Sam some comfort by pointing out that her style of knickers were totally in vogue according to Carrie Bradshaw.

When contacted by Buzzfeed Sam, 40, gave no comment on the story as she said the issue was “with the laywers”.

While Sam’s kept a dignified silence over her completely normal choice of apparel, she did call out incessant rumours about her love life on Instagram on Sunday.

“In the past week or so, I’ve been ‘in love with’ with; a gay colleague, a straight colleague, a bloke I stood next to at the races 3 months ago, a Gladiator, a British boy-band member & 17 other people I’ve never met,” she wrote.

Sam continued: “I urge all of you half-sensible people out there not to read/buy this rubbish. And certainly not to believe it. Where’s the integrity in ‘journalism’ these days? If I stand next to someone, it DOES NOT MEAN I’M DATING THEM.”

Like we’ve said before, we don’t see anything wrong with Sam’s choice of underwear whatsoever.
