Sydney siege hostage names baby after victim

Sydney siege hostage Julie Taylor, who was pregnant at the time of the incident, has named her newborn child after her friend Katrina Dawson, who died in the Lindt cafe.

Sydney siege hostage Julie Taylor has paid tribute to her close friend Katrina Dawson, who died in the incident, in the most touching way.

After giving birth two weeks ago, Taylor has named her daughter Emily Katrina, 7News revealed on Sunday.

Taylor was 19 weeks pregnant at the time she and Dawson were held hostage by Man Haron Monis – with a dozen other victims – in Martin Place’s Lindt Café.

While Taylor escaped just before police stormed the building, her colleague and close friend, Dawson was killed in the crossfire.

Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson were both killed at the Lindt Café while the other hostages escaped with their lives.

The news of Taylor’s tribute flooded newsfeeds on Sunday night, and the eve of the two week inquest into Dawson and Johnson’s deaths in the siege.

The inquest begins at 10am today and will be broadcast live for the first time in this country’s legal history.

The coronial inquest will be led by State Coroner, Michael Barnes and the opening address is expected to run for six hours.

The findings are expected to be delivered in 2016.
