Australian and Dutch unarmed police were turned around yesterday because of the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

“Tomorrow we will attempt to make the journey again because we owe it to the families of the people who were killed in this aircraft crash to retrieve the bodies and remains of their loved ones,” Ms Bishop said in Kiev yesterday.

“We will not put our police in harm’s way, we will not take any unnecessary risks.”

Ms Bishop said having access to the site to retrieve the bodies of Australian nationals was still a priority and that investigation teams would not be deterred.
