Hero dog almost dies after saving 2-year-old from tiger snake

Mack the boxer was bitten several times after rescuing little Carmen.

The Shaw family’s beloved boxer Mack was left in a critical condition after heroically saving 2-year-old Carmen from a tiger snake.

The little girl was playing just metres from the venomous snake in her backyard in Melbourne when Mack sprung into action, killing the snake.

He was bitten in the process by the four-foot long snake and was left fighting for his life.

His owner Jo Shaw said he was foaming at the mouth and paralysed when she found him.

He was rushed to the vet before being transferred to a bigger hospital. Jo says his chances of survival were ‘50/50’ and the venom caused kidney damage.

Thankfully, Mack has pulled through.

The family initially thought they’d have to sell their car to pay for the vet bills but were urged to set up a GoFundMe page to try to raise the $6,000 in costs. They’re blown away by people’s generosity.

On their GoFundMe page, Jo reveals her ‘best mate’ Mack was brought into their family as a puppy four years ago for comfort after she suffered a miscarriage.

Jo says Mack’s bond with both Carmen and her 3-month-old daughter Lexi is ‘unbreakable’.

We’re glad the hero pooch is on the mend. Let’s hope he gets home soon!
