Nine reporter Jerrie Demasi says she has confirmed that Gammy’s father was found guilty in 1998 of offences against a 13-year-old girl, and that he served jail time.

Nine says the man’s wife confirmed the story, but added that her husband is a good man and a good husband.

The Australian couple are accused of paying a surrogate to carry their twins, then abandoning their son when he was born with Down syndrome.

Their surrogate says the couple took their daughter, who was born healthy, home to Perth.

The husband, in his late 50s, is Australian-born. His wife, who is younger, is believed to be from Thailand.

Media are camped outside the couple’s house.

The couple have told reporters that they have a daughter, born to a surrogate in Thailand on the same day as Gammy.

However, they say the did not know of Gammy’s existence until recently, and therefore did not abandon him in Thailand.

Besides having Down syndrome, Gammy has a hole in the heart, and weak lungs. He is currently being cared for by the 21-year-old Mum who carried him to term.

She has two other children, aged six and three. She lives in a village outside Bangkok.

The case has shocked the world, with almost a quarter of a million dollars now donated for Gammy’s care.
