Australia: the home of Vegemite and avo on toast, the Tim-Tam Slam, a bunch of newly resigned pollies – who don’t know which country they’re a citizen of and, now, a boat dubbed Ferry McFerryface.

According to the ABC, hundreds of Sydneysiders voted to name one of the city’s new inner-harbour ferries as part of the Name Your Ferry competition, which saw more than 15,000 suggestions submitted.

Introducing: Ferry McFerryface!

Initially, Boaty McBoatface got the most votes overall, but Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andre Constance says that Boaty was a name already given to a British boat.

“Given Boaty was already taken by another vessel, we’ve gone with the next most popular name nominated by Sydneysiders,” Mr Constance says.

“Ferry McFerryface will be the harbour’s newest icon, and I hope it brings a smile to the faces of visitors and locals alike.”

Naturally, the internet is loving/blowing up over the new ferry’s moniker.

Three of the other new ferries to cruise Sydney Harbour will be named: Fred Hollows (who was an opthamologist), Victor Chang (a cardiac surgeon) and (obstetrician) Catherine Hamlin.
