Coles target three items in price war against Woolies

While this retail war rages on, it’s us customers that win.

It’s been less than a week since Woolworths claimed it was cheaper than Coles, and Coles has retaliated on the supermarket price war by cutting prices on rice, tissues and toothpaste.

Coles has discounted three of its biggest-selling grocery brands – Sunrice, Colgate and Kleenex – and shifted the battle of the cheapest prices back to dry groceries, instead of chicken.

In January, both Coles and Woolies marked down the price of roast chicken to stem the popularity of discount alternative Aldi.

Coles cut-prices have come after Woolworths’ new CEO Brad Banducci recently claimed Woolworths’ groceries had been cheaper than Coles for more than six months.

Retail analysts claim the price drops are an ongoing campaign to keep Coles’ customer base and convince shoppers to stick with them.

Woolworths is trying to remain in the game with high-profile personal brands such as Oral-B and Sorbent discounted, as part of their ‘Always’ campaign.

So, while this retail war rages on, it’s us customers that win.
