Coffee shop under fire for unpatriotic sign

Do they have a point, or is it just plain un-Australian?

A South Coast coffee shop custom wrote a blackboard advertising their Australia Day hours but their message has brought down the wrath of many upon them reports 9News

The blackboard outside Mister Jones cafe in Bermagui stated –

“Yes, we’re open on national dickhead day”

A picture of the board made it on to Facebook page Made in Australia with the caption “Mister Jones coffee shop in Bermagui, your coffee is as bad as your attitude.”

Garnering almost 7000 likes, and over 3000 shares, it appears that some people have a sense of humour about the sign, however the comments sections appears to be quite polarised.

Of the 1900 comments many were feisty against the cafe with swearing, rudeness and the odd threat thrown in defence of the National Day, however many saw the sign in the spirit in which it was meant – a dig against people who shame themselves on Australia Day.

The argument is over whether the sign is slanderous and unpatriotic, but many people recognise that some Australians do get wild and crazy in the name of patriotism and give a bad name to the rest of us.
