Childcare worker admits having sex with 13-year-old boy

The man pleaded guilty to having the crime after grooming him through Facebook.

A former childcare worker has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-boy after using Facebook to groom him.

Cameron Michael Stinear was 19 when the crime occurred in September 2014, and was on bail on child pornography charges.

The now 22-year-old is on trial and originally pleaded not guilty, before then admitting his guilt to unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 14.

The Adelaide District Court was told Stinear engaged in “deliberate, calculated, grooming and normalising behaviour” on Facebook, and encouraged sexual and graphic chats with the boy.

The boy then met up with Stinear and performed a sex act on him in his car.

Prosecutor Chris Edge said that both parties had been willing to meet up, but the contact stopped between the two when the boy’s mother found their messages and reported it to the police.

Stinear has admitted to other crimes, including communicating with the intention of making a child amenable to sexual activity and causing a child to expose a body part.

Also facing two counts of possessing child pornography, he will be back in court in May.
