Chelsea Handler’s teary TV breakdown over Hillary loss

“I know as a woman, it feels so sexist...”

Politics is not for the faint of heart – and hasn’t that lesson been drilled into us this year.

While the US election result this week proves that the majority of the country wanted a Donald Trump victory – there are many Americans that are voicing their heartbreak; Chelsea Hander being one of them.

On Wednesday night after the election an emotional Handler sat down with Senator Barbara Boxer to talk about how the loss had affected her, and also how she won’t “throw in the towel”.

“My heart’s on the floor,” said Boxer, who is a Senator from California. “I have learned how painful politics can be. But that doesn’t mean you run away. It means you pick yourself up, as the president said, and you fight even harder for your country, because it’s ours. It’s ours.”

“I know as a woman, it feels so sexist,” Handler responded, beginning to cry.

Earlier this year the comedian had said she would move to Spain if Trump won, but she now wants to walk back that promise to honour Clinton’s legacy.

“I guess the message that I want to spread out to other women is to not give up — sorry, I hate f–king crying on camera — because this is so important,” Chelsea said. “It’s easy to throw in the towel and say that we’re gonna leave, or I’m gonna move to Spain. Because I want to move to Spain, I really, really want to move to Spain right now. And everyone in my office is like ‘you have a responsibility. You have a voice and you have to use it and you have to be here.’”

Handler continued to explain that she still felt Trump was ill-suited for the job.

She said: “If you’re caught lying on camera three times in a row, if you’re referring to a woman’s genitalia. Those are non-presidential things …unpresidential things.”

She later posted a video on Instagram further elaboration on her decision to stay.
