She’s safe: baby girl abducted in Canberra found

Police have found the missing 18-month-old girl safe and well in bushland west of Bateman's Bay after major search.

Australian Federal Police have found a missing 18-month-old girl safe and well in the bushlands west of Bateman’s Bay.

Police were yesterday looking for the woman in the photograph below and a man aged 25-30 who they believe abducted a child from a Belconnen care home.

Reports say the 18-month-old baby was abducted by the man who was armed with a knife and a replica gun at about 12.30pm on Thursday August 13.

The child was in Bernardos Care House and police suspect the 18-year-old mother of the child, Melinda Kringle (pictured below), could also be involved in the abduction.

Police released this photograph.

An extensive search of the area was launched with police requesting any information about the child who they believed was travelling in a blue four-wheel-drive.

“Police believe that the trio may be travelling in a dark blue or black 4-wheel-drive vehicle,” says a statement from the Australian Federal Police.
