Baby boy found alone in NSW childcare centre

“We have very strong regulations in place that are designed to prevent this happening, and given the amount of children in care ... it's very, very rare."

A father has found his baby boy asleep and alone in a NSW childcare centre after staff left for the day.

Police were called to Little Smarts Daycare Centre in Blaxland on Monday and forced their way into the premises, finding the little boy in an air-conditioned room, reports Seven News.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and the boy was given the all clear.

The centre described the incident as a miscommunication and the child was unattended for 20 minutes. The boy’s parents told Seven News they are still “very happy with the childcare centre and continue to use it”.

“The most important thing is our baby boy is safe.”

Nesha O’Neill from Australian Childcare Alliance NSW told Seven News “there is always going to be human error”.

“We have very strong regulations in place that are designed to prevent this happening, and given the amount of children in care … it’s very, very rare.”

The Department of Education announced a full investigation will be conducted.
