Anzac war graves vandalised

The graves of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who died in World War I have been vandalised for the second time this year.

The headstones, which are located in a churchyard in Hillington, west London, were covered in graffiti and smashed with sledgehammers, bringing locals to tears.

“When you think these graves have been here for a hundred years and twice this year they’ve been desecrated, I just cannot believe that anybody would do this to these soldiers who gave up their lives to fight for their mother country,” Church Warden Rowena Scott said.

Some of the same graves were vandalised with blue spray paint in a similar attack in April.

A police investigation is underway.

More than 100 Anzacs are buried in the cemetery.
