A Kingscliff local caught footage of a crazy-looking sandstorm that forced around 250 nippers to run for cover as the vortex sped towards them.

It occurred during the youngsters’ Christmas party on Sunday.

Marty Fairweather, the Cudgen Head SLSC U9s coach caught this snap of the storm tearing up the beach.

It appeared to whip up a sandnado and hundreds of kids ran to get away from the chaos.

“It was pretty crazy, the kids were running everywhere saying it was a mini tornado,” Mr Fairweather told The Gold Coast Bulletin.

“They’d called the games off and we were watching the storm move up the coast and then all of a sudden the sand spun up and went straight for the kids.

“No one was hurt or anything like that.”

The footage is certainly wild anyway..!
