A court in Perth has heard the shocking story of how WA police arrested and charged a ten-year-old boy with armed robbery.

The young boy, who lives in Guildford, allegedly held up a truck driver at the Midland Shopping Centre, near the Great Eastern Highway, between 4pm and 4.30pm, where he threatened the 28-year-old driver with what looked to be a handgun.

The child was wearing a dark coloured hoodie and allegedly threatened the driver several times before pulling the trigger on his gun, producing a large bang – but no bullet.

WA police were able to arrest and detain the 10-year-old later that day, where they seized the weapon, only to find that it was a toy ‘cap gun’.

The boy has since been released on supervised bail, despite the prosecutor’s opposition.

Following his arrest, the boy is expected to face the Midland Magistrates Court on 13 unrelated charges, including criminal damage and common assault.

Speaking to Vice, the victims co-worker revealed such attacks are commonplace.

“This isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened; kids hangout and pretend to hold-up drivers,” the co-worker remarked.
