“Hugs to all and hold your children tight,” tributes for Florida school shooting victims

17 lives were lost yesterday, following the terrifying mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, US.

Tragically, CNN has reported there are still bodies in the school.

Sherriff Scott Israel told reporters that the entire incident made him sick to his stomach.

“I’m absolutely sick to my stomach to see children who go to school with backpacks and pencils lose their lives,” he said. “We will not be releasing the names of any victims until every family and every parent is notified accordingly.”

As the names are released, the first heart-wrenching tributes are starting to appear on social media, including tributes to football coach Aaron Feis, who witnesses say “selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero.”

Jaime Guttenberg was one of the victims identified. She is remembered by her cousin on her Facebook page as “the most beautiful, kind-hearted, driven, funny and sweet girl.”

The teenager’s father also posted a touching tribute to his daughter. The following was posted on his Facebook page:

“My heart is broken,” he wrote.

“Yesterday, Jennifer Bloom Guttenberg and I lost our baby girl to a violent shooting at her school. We lost our daughter and my son Jesse Guttenberg lost his sister. I am broken as I write this trying to figure out how my family get’s through this.”

“We appreciate all of the calls and messages and we apologize for not reacting to everyone individually. Jen and I will be figuring things out today and so we ask that you respect out privacy. We will be getting messages out later regarding visitation. Hugs to all and hold your children tight,” he finished.”

Martin Duque was just 14-years-old, he also lost his life in the shooting.

Tributes for the young teenager were pouring in, including one from a friend which read, “I love you brother Martin you’ll be missed buddy.”

Gina Montalto was also 14, and tragically died from her injuries on Wednesday night.

She’s remembered as the “sweetest soul ever. She was kind, caring always smiling and wanting to help.”

Cara Loughran has been reported as one of the youngest victims of the shootings.

“RIP Cara, and fly with the angels. You will be greatly missed, and we will always love you and celebrate your beautiful life,” her neighbor posted on Facebook.
