A teenager is in critical condition and another is on the run from police after a brawl broke out at a Halloween party in Sydney’s exclusive north shore.

A year 11 Loreto Normanhurst student was hosting a house party in Gladesville when about 50 revellers crashed and an alcohol-fuelled fight broke out.

In the mayhem, a 16-year-old boy was punched and smacked his head on the road.

Partygoers immediately called triple-o and those involved in the fight fled the scene.

Paramedics said they were surrounded by “several dozen” gatecrashers while they worked on the boy before he was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in a critical condition with head injuries.

“We have a situation where there’s a 16-year-old boy fighting for his life in hospital. He just went out last night,” Ryde Police Detective Inspector Mark Christie said.

“[His parents] are very upset but they’re with him.

“If you’re going to have a party make sure it’s controlled, make sure there’s adequate supervision. It’s illegal to supply alcohol to underage people.”

Police say they are investigating whether the student’s parents were home at the time of the party.

One of the guests said the night had begun as a “normal party”.

“There was [alcohol],” he said.

“They’re a normal family, really nice people — there was no need for this to happen.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
