A Texas, US, teacher has been arrested after being caught on video repeatedly hitting a student in class.
Seen on a Snapchat video, geography teacher Mary Hastings, 63, threw his papers off his desk and smacked him aggressively over the head and arm multiple times.
She was yelling “because you’re stopping him from graduating, you idiot ass.”
When the student tried to make a retort, she mocked him in front of the class.

In a statement by Beaumont Independent School District, spokeswoman Nakisha Burns said Hastings was immediately removed from the classroom and put on paid leave.
“BISD does not condone employees abusing any child and will not tolerate such conduct,” she said.
“The teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending action on her contract.”
A teacher of three years at Ozen High School in Texas, she was arrested on a misdemeanour count of assault and posted $2500 bond.
Judging by the boy’s laughing face in the video following the smacking, he did not appear to be harmed.
