The solution to sexual harassment in the workplace is to simply quit, says former Liberal adviser

Watching Jane Gilmore tear him to pieces is equal parts satisfying and empowering.

John Adams came up with a hot new take on Don Burke’s harassment scandal – women who are sexually harassed at work should just quit.

It’s by no means a fresh position in the world of sexual harassment – it’s famously championed by many others, who for some reason always seem to be men.

Donald Trump, for instance, hoped were his oldest daughter Ivanka were ever treated in such a way, “she would find another career or find another company” – a seemingly genuine and not in any way self-serving take from a man accused by multiple women of sexual harassment.

Appearing on ABC’s The Drum, the former Liberal adviser compared the allegations against Don Burke, from over 50 women so far, to his instances of being bullied at work.

“In my professional career, there have been two instances in which I was bullied. And what did I do? I literally quit the next day,” he bravely revealed.

Columnist Jane Gilmore quickly took umbrage with the suggestion these women should have simply quit.

“So are you suggesting that if somebody is sexually harassed or bullied at work, that what they should do is leave? Is that what you’re saying is the solution?” Ms Gilmore replied incredulously.

“They shouldn’t allow this behaviour to continue, so they should either go public or not put themselves in that situation,” he replied.

Is it just me, or are your victim blaming sense tingling?

“What do you mean not put themselves in that situation? They didn’t put themselves in that situation,” she snapped back.

“Somebody else put them in that situation, a sexual predator put them in that situation, they didn’t put themselves there.

“They’re just going to work; they’re just doing their job.

“And if they leave, how are they supposed to pay their rent? If they’re a single mother, how are they meant to feed their kids?”

Mr Adams ground breaking solution? “Get another job.”

Looking forward to his solutions to the Israel Palestine conflict and climate change which will be similarly simple I’m sure.
