Who is in the wrong?

The question has sparked intense debate across the country as tense footage of a cyclist running into a man, aged in his 80s, goes viral.

The senior man was filmed darting across Racecourse Road in Flemington, Victoria, as the vehicles waited at a stoplight. At the same time, the cyclist can be seen slipping through the halted traffic, which is not against the law in Victoria. The pedestrian, who legally has the right of way, is seen not to look both ways before the violent collision took place.

Alan Donelly, who shared the confronting video footage online told radio station 3AW that the incident was “sickening” to watch.

“The collision actually picked him up off the ground and slammed him into the deck,” he said.

He went on to suggest that cyclists should be registered.

“With that registration, it covers third-party insurance,” he told the radio station.

Cycling officials say that registering bikes will discourage cycling and put the blame back onto the pedestrian.

With neither party legally at fault, it’s a timely reminder to make sure you’re looking both ways when crossing the road regardless, even if you’re crossing a pedestrian crossing.

Who do you think was at fault?
