Australian mummy blogger charged with child abuse offences

Police allegedly found syringes, urine samples and laxatives in the woman's handbag.

One of Australia’s better known ‘Mummy Bloggers’ has been charged with child abuse offences, with police saying she may have harmed her daughter for attention.

The woman, who can’t be named because it would identify her children, has a strong presence online, and has previously used her site to raise more than $10,000 for medical equipment for the hospital where her daughter was treated.

The woman claims to be the mother of several children, including one who supposedly has a genetic illness.

However, police say she may have been harming one of the girls by putting urine in her IV tube while the child was in hospital. The woman is alleged to have been found with a urine sample in her handbag when she was arrested.

The woman’s blog has now been taken down.

The ABC reports that doctors at John Hunter Hospital near Newcastle, and the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney became concerned when fungus began growing in one of the child’s IV tubes.

“Police allegedly found syringes, urine samples and laxatives in the woman’s handbag,” the report says.
