My best friend’s wedding

My school pal got married last year and asked me to be her bridesmaid. From the get go there were issues – I had to act as her maid of honour but she didn’t want to offend the other bridesmaids so I wasn’t allowed to be called that.

She also decided she’d buy the bridesmaid dresses online without asking us for measurements.

The dresses, from China, were ill-made and didn’t fit any of us.

She asked that we all get it altered (and cover the cost ourselves).

My dress was multiple sizes too small, so she told me to lose weight to fit into it.

After the other bridesmaids complained, she purchased new dresses.

Mine was 3 sizes too big and it cost me over $100 in alterations. Not to mention the cost of jewellery, shoes and her hens (which I ended up footing because the other bridesmaid weren’t “that close” to the bride).

The entire day was very intense and we were expected to give engagement gifts, hens gifts and there was a wishing well at the wedding.

It cost me over $1k.

Can’t wait for the big day

A couple whose wedding I was invited to set up their gift registry so every time someone purchased something off it, they received a notification.

One morning over coffee several weeks before their wedding, they thanked us for the crockery set we’d gotten them.

Whatever happened to a good-old fashioned thank you note and an element of surprise? It feels rather spoilt, like they were opening their presents before Christmas day.

What money?

My husband’s parents took money given as wedding gifts for themselves.

Disclaimer: it’s custom for Korean parents to gift each other money when their kids get married but NOT to take money given directly to the kid away from them.

So…

Husband’s Aunt: What did you do with the money I sent you? Buy a nice piece of furniture or something?

Husband: What money?

Back off!

My uncle flew in singers from Serbia for both my cousins’ weddings.

They walk around to the guests and just sort of…sing at them until you give them a $50 or whatever. I think it’s expected from the singers, mostly, but still…

They were already paid to be there and had flights/hotels paid for, etc

They probably rake in an extra 2k by the end of the night.

Good save!

I used to work at this venue that hosted weddings a lot back in Adelaide and one time some clown had bought the bride and groom a stripshow…. TO BE PERFORMED AT THE WEDDING.

Poor girl didn’t end up doing it once she realised grandparents and kids under 10 were there.

Well, that’s something..

I worked at a wedding with an open bar and everyone got really drunk (obviously).

When I cut one of the uncles off he grabbed a vodka bottle and tried to break it on the floor but it just bounced and hit another guest in the face. He started bleeding then a brawl broke out and cops had to come and the wedding finished early.

They had good cake though.

Stingy bride and groom

My boyfriend MC’d his friend’s wedding.

As he was running the thing more than actually being a guest, and wouldn’t know anyone else there, he asked if I could be his +1.

They said no as they didn’t want to pay for my meal. He gave them a $100 gift. It probably wasn’t more than $40/head.
