An unknown amount of Woolworths limited customers around Australia have unknowingly had large chunks of money withdrawn from their account this week, after a computer glitch re-processed six-month-old transactions.

“Very angry Woolworths,” said outraged customer Rebekah Caust on Facebook.

“Over $180 dollars in transactions taken from our account without permission today. That is A LOT of money for a family of 7 on only a part time income,” she continued.

“Why have our card details been stored within another system for this long? This is exceptionally dodgy and alarming, to say the least. What are you going to do to ensure that this doesn’t happen again?”

What to do if you think your account has been affected by Woolworths computer glitch

Woolworths has been quick to respond to the computing error explaining the problem was due to a problem with their payment processor, Cuscal.

“We have received confirmation from Cuscal, one of our payment processors that service credit unions and other financial institutions, that due to an error at their data centre, a limited number of Woolworths customers may have received incorrect transactions,” Woolworths said in a statement.

“”We are working closely with Cuscal and can confirm any payment errors will be corrected within 24 hours,” the company said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause customers. If further information is required please contact 1300 767 969.”

Cuscal themselves said they are urgently working to correct the errors.

Many who have taken to social media to complain are raising concerns with the fact bank details are being kept on file for six month by a third party.

Woolworths has yet to make comment on these concerns but have confirmed that no customers will be left out of pocket due to incorrect charges.
