The wide branches of the camphor tree – which has been the bustling home to animals and birds for centuries – is going to get some human inhabitants with an interior designed by renowned Japanese tree house creator, Takashi Kobayashi.

The space was built for a resort located in Atami, south of Japan, and was completed in March 2014 and features a nine-metre high “air walk” and a large room and balcony for adults and children to stay in.

But before the tree huggers get their hemp knickers in a twist the high tech tree house is so special because it was designed with 3D scanning of the tree’s structure so Kobayashi’s design stands alone and doesn’t actually touch the tree. This means that despite the extension won’t stunt the tree’s grown as the years roll on.
