Over the years, we’ve had the odd insight into some of the Queen’s quirks — somehow it’s hard to imagine her doing anything relatable, or ordinary. It was reported earlier this year that she starts the day with an entirely humdrum cereal (Special K, Weetabix, Quaker Oats) stored in and decanted from Tupperware.
A couple of years ago The Telegraph shed further light on some of the Queen’s preferred foods, with former royal chef Darren McGrady solemnly admitting: “Sadly, the Queen is not a foodie. She eats to live, unlike Prince Philip who loves to eat and would stand and talk food all day.”
One thing she (apparently) feels strongly about is her dislike of one particular ingredient: garlic. McGrady is quoted as saying: “We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions.
The Queen would never have garlic on the menu.” Considering onions are getting a mention there too, we can only assume that breath issues are at the crux of this ban.
Chocolate is, meanwhile, a favorite ingredient, from biscuit cake (which Prince William also chose to feature at his wedding reception) to bars of the dark stuff (“It has to be the dark chocolate, the darker the better. She wasn’t keen on milk chocolate or white chocolate”).
And another revelation is the fact that Princes William and Harry enjoyed (much like every other child in the country, it should be noted) a McDonald’s from time to time, along with their mom Princess Diana.
Darren revealed “I remember the Princess came into the kitchen one day and said, “Cancel lunch for the boys I’m taking them out, we’re going to McDonald’s.” Supposedly it was the Happy Meal toys that lured them.
