It’s called wine fashion, darling. Have you heard of it?

It must be more than a coincidence that all the biggest fashion trends of 2018 just so happen to lend themselves perfectly to seasonal wine pairings.

Wine as a fashion accessory – honestly, what can’t it do?

When you’re feeling yourself in your sizzling summer outfit try one of these simple pairings, presented to us by wine experts and take that ensemble to the next level.

Cheese is optional (it’s not, eat the cheese).

Bright colours

Forget monotone, lively, bright colours are in for 2018.

From colour-blocking entire ensembles to using a statement piece to make an outfit really pop.

To really make an outfit pop, try pairing it with a glass of Jacob’s Creek Prosecco Spritz.

Trina Smith, Jacob’s Creek Group White and Sparkling Winemaker says “Blending crisp prosecco with zesty blood oranges and carefully selected botanicals gives Jacob’s Creek Prosecco Spritz a vibrant flavour matched by its vivid orange colour. The perfect drink to brighten up any Summer event”.

Romantic

The fashion world’s obsession with feminine pieces continues, but not as we know it.

In 2018 you’ll see delicate colours, natural fabrics, lace floral prints and pretty details but with a modern edge.

Pair this with Stoneleigh Wild Valley Pinot Noir, a beautiful pale red wine that is wild fermented, to give it intriguing layers of flavour and texture.

“This wine personifies romance with an unexpected twist, with its gorgeous colour, sumptuous berry flavours, silky tannins and just a hint of vanilla” says Stoneleigh Winemaker, Jamie Marfell.

“Tina is drinking a shiraz with shoulder pads. I never liked her.”

Luxe fabrics

Luxury is in this summer, with lavish statement pieces in velvet, satin and silk.

Make sure you pair your luxe fabric with a wine that is equally sumptuous, such as St Hugo Grenache Shiraz Mataro.

Dan Swincer, St Hugo Chief Winemaker says “St Hugo Grenache Shiraz Mataro combines plush, spiced fruit flavours with velvety tannins in a wine that is both smooth and refined”.

Bold stripes

If you think that this is just another fashion revival, you’re wrong.

Bold stripes are back for summer – this time, with a twist. An explosion of colours and shapes, summer ‘18 will be all about kaleidoscopic whirlwinds and creative flair.

Pair this with a wine that is equally bold, such as Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

“This is a wine of vivid contrasts – vibrant tropical aromatics, zesty citrus flavours and crisp acidity all work together to create a bright, bold wine that is perfect for any Summer occasion” says Patrick Materman, Brancott Estate Chief Winemaker.

The 80’s

Step out of your comfort zone for after-dark wares with a little 80’s redux; all about big shoulders, leather jackets and skirts and edgy heels.

For a real ‘back to the future’ experience, pair your retro outfit with I AM GEORGE Shiraz.

I AM GEORGE brings to life the amazing stories and legacies of legendary Australian winemaker George Wyndham. Chief winemaker Steve Meyer says “I AM GEORGE Shiraz is rich, dark and robust. With a courageous composition, it’s the perfect accompaniment for any Saturday night”.

The red wine outfit

My mother and I are very close. She’s 40-years-old and I’m 20. We have gone through a lot together, and do fight, but we still remain the best of friends. One day, she splurged on a fantastic top, which she bought from Myer for $150. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. […]
