5 things to do to make this week incredible (or at least not suck)

Like last week, only better.

Ah, weekdays!

No matter how much we love our nine to five routine (for the most of the time, anyway), achieving the whole work/life balance can be tricky.

Ballet lessons, after-school play dates, doctors appointments and all of life’s other crazy commitments can quickly crowd our already jam-packed schedules, leaving us with zero time to actually enjoy our weekdays. (Yes, it’s possible!)

Instead of spending your Monday to Friday counting down the days until the weekend and eagerly awaiting hump-day, why not try and savour your weekdays by making them a lot more appealing?

Here, five smart ways to boost your week and blitz your Monday blues for good:

1. Get up 30 minutes earlier

Don’t knock it before you try it – at least once! Set your weekday alarm 30 minutes earlier than your regular wake-up time, and use the half hour as your daily ‘me’ time. Try squeezing in a quick workout or making a slightly-more-elaborate-than-normal brekkie – you’ll find your day will be much more productive when it’s started calmly, and without any last-minute stress.

2. Shake-up your dinner routine

It may seem a little time-consuming but mixing up your weeknight dinner menu will make for a far more exciting (and yummy) week. Shop for a bunch of hero ingredients on a Monday, and find different recipes to use them in. South Cape Fetta is a great to have on hand when wanting to whip up a medley of dinner dishes. The Danish-style Fetta is made from 100% Tasmanian milk, giving kitchen creations a perfectly mild and creamy finish. From Fetta lamb cutlets to prawn and Fetta risoni, you’d be surprised by how far one ingredient will take you.

This week gets a thumbs up!

3. Do something weekend-ish on a weeknight

Who said Monday to Friday had to be a total bore? Plan to do something on a weeknight that you’d usually save for the weekend. Catch a movie on Cheap Tuesday, have your friends over for an early (yet still 100% delicious) dinner or get up early and enjoy a quick dip in the ocean! Having a bunch of fun activities scheduled into your working week – even if it’s just a couple – will make the weekend come faster and work a lot more bearable.

4. Wear something you wouldn’t usually wear

Whether it’s treating yourself to a chic new work dress, or simply giving those old heels at the back of your wardrobe some time out in the real world, try giving your weekday wardrobe a small update. While it mightn’t seem as urgent a to-do list item as prepping the kids’ school lunches or meeting fast-approaching work deadlines, taking the time to make sure you feel good about yourself is a must. They say you can’t do the same thing and expect different results – this week, try on something new and see what difference it makes to your weekday grind.

5. Set yourself weekly goals – and get them done!

Every Monday morning, write up a list of work-related and non work-related goals you want to have ticked-off by Friday night. It could be to exercise a certain amount of times, reach the half-way point in a work project or read two chapters a night of your new novel. Keep the goals realistic and plan how you will work towards each on a daily basis. Setting yourself mini challenges will not only make for a more enjoyable week, but will make weekend a lot less stressful, too.
