Karl Lagerfeld to be sued over slamming ‘curvy’ women

The Chanel designer faces legal action from a pressure group called Belle, Ronde, Sexy et jet m’assume (Beautiful Rounded Sexy and fine with it), who campaign for the rights of women of all sizes.

The group has filed a complaint against the 80-year-old designer accusing him of defamation following his comments over the push for curvier models, the Daily Mail reports.

“Nobody wants to see curvy women on the runway,” the designer reportedly said.

The pressure group has filed a complaint over the comment, which was printed in recent book, The World According to Karl, and started a petition receiving more than 500 signatures of support.

Representative for Belle, Ronde, Betty Aubriere, said the celebrity’s comments were damaging to young girls.

“These insults by celebrities must stop,” she said.

“We’re sick of it. There are a lot of young girls who don’t feel comfortable in their skin and for them to hear comments like that is terrible for them.

The complaint accuses Lagerfeld of displaying a ‘discriminatory’ attitude towards those with fuller figures, according to the Sunday Times.

If found guilty, the fashion icon could be fined.

Lagerfeld has never been one to hold his tongue when it comes to his opinions on women and their weight and looks.

He has in the past dismissed demands for fuller-figured models on the catwalk, taking to French television to say “it’s the fat women sitting in front of televisions with their packets of crisps who say slim models are hideous”.

Most famously he courted controversy describing soul singer Adele as “a little too fat”, though he quickly added that she was beautiful and her voice “divine”.

He has also had a go at Pippa Middleton, who he insulted as an aside to describing the Duchess of Cambridge as a “romantic beauty”.

“On the other hand, her sister struggles,” he said.

“I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”
