MAFS’s Gabrielle Bartlett reveals Toxic Shock Syndrome as the reason behind her rapid weight loss

My weight just dropped.

Fans will have undoubtedly noticed Gab’s shrinking frame since she first appeared on our screens as Nasser’s “wife” on Married at First Sight Australia – but all is not what it seems.

Gab’s weight loss is due to a series of health problems. She posted on Instagram that she is currently fighting her way through, “a perfect storm of issues” relating to complications from a Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) diagnosis in January.

“With my emotional journey on the show, along with health issues towards the end of filming that I needed treatment for, my weight just dropped,” Gab, 44, told NW in March after being diagnosed with Toxic Shock Syndrome and dropping several dress sizes.

“I slimmed down a lot during and after the experiment was filming. However, I’m feeling a lot better now and letting my body do what it needs to do to stay strong and healthy – it is what it is for now!”

A dietitian told the publication it looked like Gab had lost “at least 18kg.”

Gab has been very open about her health struggles on social media.

Recently the plus-sized model shared a picture of herself leaving hospital on Instagram, confirming in the comments that she was being treated for TSS.

The caption read:

“After what has naturally been a pretty emotional 6-8 months…I wanted to show off and celebrate the friends I have in my life who have been there behind the scenes, filming or significant illness – and kept me sane, lifted me up, handed me a wine glass and an ear, and offered the laughs by the truckload. I’m so proud of them so I thought I’d introduce you around!”

“Not all are represented here – and my family is a whole other story of love and support yet again…but for now here are some of those closest to my heart.”

In her latest Instagram photos, Gab is pictures with fellow MAFS alumni, Ryan, looking very slim in a tight white dress.

One fan commented asking for her weight loss secrets and Gab was quick to remind the Instagram user that her weight loss was not due to a healthy diet or a quick fix fad.

“Aww thank you lovely – but I’ve been very sick but getting better now thank god!”, the single mother said.

“I had toxic shock in Jan and then a few complications after that – a few issues that decided to get together and have a party together,” she told another concerned commenter.

Our thoughts are with Gab for a speedy recovery!
