Model attacked with acid on her 21st birthday shares pictures of her recovery

The model took to Twitter to share the extraordinary images.

On June 21st, an aspiring model and student Resham Khan was attacked with sulphuric acid while celebrating her 21st birthday in Manchester, UK.

The shocking attack occurred when someone threw acid at Resham and her cousin, who were sitting in her car at a traffic light. As acid burnt into the eyes, clothes and skin of the pair, their car crashed into a fence on the motor way.

It took 45 minutes for emergency services to reach the pair, who were forced to remove their clothing on the side of the motorway while attempting to flag people down pleading for water.

A Gofundme page set up for Reshem after the incident explains:

“With plans to celebrate her birthday with family, and having just got back from an exchange year in Cyprus, Resham is a Business Management student who was due to start her new job working with young people on a social inclusion residential.

“Resham planned to go to a spa and restaurant with her mum for her 21st birthday. It was to be the first time they spent quality time together since Resham had studied abroad. Resham had not seen Jameel in 2 years, and was marking the occasion. “

But Resham isn’t hiding any more. This week, just four months later Resham tweeted a brave selfie to her 20,000 followers with the caption, “Time to stop hiding”.

Following the attacks, the young woman shared that she was often too scare to leave the house.

“Today I was too petrified to walk to my local shop. Too scared to face the world. Too scared of the looks I might get. To scared to tackle the question ‘how are you’,” she wrote.

“Just too scared. That’s all I’ve been. Terrified and reluctant. My life on pause, frozen with fear.”

But not anymore.
