EXCLUSIVE: The Bachelorette’s Carlos and Dale tell all

Woman's Day caught up with the first two contestants who were sent home on The Bachelorette.
Carlos and Dale

Georgia Love has officially embarked on her quest to find the one.

Last night’s premiere episode saw the 16 hopefuls pull out all the stops to impressive the bubbly 27-year-old. From sweet poems, to an actual donkey, this batch of Bachelors certainly know how to make an impression.

But not everything went to plan with both Georiga and Ben taking a tumble.

Miss Love’s face plant as she attempted to make a graceful entrance into the room only won her more affection from the lads.

“If she could go down with a drink in her hand, that’s marriage material,” Ben said.

Sparks flew between the journalist and 30-year-old Courtney with the handsome bloke receiving the all-important and brand new, first impression rose.

Unfortunately for stripper Carlos, his Tiffany’s bracelet failed to impress Georgia and the entrepreneur and Dale were both sent home.

The brunette beauty has since confirmed she sent the expensive piece of jewelry back to Carlos.

“The fact he did go home on the first night, I felt uncomfortable holding on to that – knowing how much it’s worth, and that it’s such a big gesture. So I actually sent it back to him, with a note to say how much I loved and appreciated it,” Georgia told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“So I actually sent it back to him, with a note to say how much I loved and appreciated it. Given the circumstances, I didn’t want to look as if I’d taken a gift, then sent him out the door. That’s not the kind of person I am,” she said.

We caught up with the boys to talk about their whirlwind time on the show. Read on for their chats below!

Carlos, 33, stripper/entrepreneur

Were you upset to be one of the first to be one of the first to leave?

I think preparing yourself to go on a journey to find love, it’s always a bit of a disappointment when you get eliminated, especially as the first one. But obviously someone had to go.

There’s so much testosterone during that first cocktail party, did you feel pressure to perform?

Right off the bat, you realise there are a lot of guys with strong personalities and you know the time is ticking. You have a short amount of time to put your best foot forward. So there’s definitely a lot of peacocking in the house.

Did you peacock?

Not so much. I am very confident because I do work very hard in achieving things I have in my life. I guess there was more interest about me letting her get to know me in the short time we had.

What were your thoughts on Georgia, would you date her in the real world?

Georgia had all the lovely qualities that I look for. She’s funny, intelligent and very passionate in life. I can’t speak highly enough of her.

If I saw Georgia in the real world and I saw those qualities, then that would definitely be someone who I would be interested in.

There was a bit of backlash on social media about you being quite materialistic. What do you have to say to people that perceived you that way?

To be honest, in regards to the Tiffany bracelet, I actually genuinely gave it to her because I was excited that she was on a journey to love. So I thought the Tiffany love bracelet was a fitting present.

I do enjoy good things in life and I’ve worked very hard to be able to afford things and buy things for people I love. But by no means do I think that to win someone over, I’d use money as a tool to win love. I think personality and other things count more.

Stripper Carlos insists he’s not materialistic!

Were you upset the bracelet didn’t work? Did you want her to give it back or keep it?

If I’d known that someone else had also had the same present, I may have chosen a different gift. I genuinely hope she keeps it as a reminder that she put herself out there.

Have you found love since being on the show?

I’ve kind of just been so focused back on my work that I think my love life has taken a bit of a back seat.

What’s something viewers didn’t get to learn about you?

If I had more time on the show, I would have loved Georgia to find out that I’m actually quite adventurous and love travel.

Although you like the finer things in life, are you the kind of guy that can also hang out in your trackie pants and watch telly?

You know what, trackie pants and Netflix is my idea of the perfect first date!

Who do you think will win?

I think women love a fireman and Cam is such a genuine guy, I think he’ll be a strong contender for the show!

The 33-year-old gifted Georgia with a Tiffany’s bracelet but she gave it back to him.

Dale, 29, personal trainer

How was it watching yourself on the show last night?

It was great. I went to the toilet and then I missed myself. Nah, it was good. I watched it with my housemates.

You seemed a bit sad to be sent home so early on in the show?

Yeah, it was definitely crushing. I would have loved to have stayed around a little longer but these things happen.

Why did you decide to go on the series?

Probably to steal one of the glasses from the show…

Do you not have cutlery at home?

Haha, they’re $500 a glass! Nah, I did go on it for love and I definitely do want to find that One.

How’s your love life since leaving the house?

No dating. No one special yet! I’ve just been keeping to myself and back at work.

Dale says he’s gutted to leave the show so early.

There’s so much testosterone during that first cocktail party, what does it feel like if you’re not necessarily an outgoing show off?

There’s 16 great personalities and a lot of testosterone… For me, there just wasn’t that connection with Georgia. It just means you don’t really want to try. But you’re right, there’s a lot of testosterone being thrown around but it was good fun.

Do you wish you did things differently? There were a lot of extravagant gestures…

No! Definitely not. I’m kind of happy I stuck with the rose. Nice and simple, it’s definitely not a Tiffany’s bracelet.

What was Carlos like in real life?

He’s actually not a bad guy in real life. I think the show has portrayed him as someone with a bit of an ego. But I feel like it was a persona he put on because he didn’t know what to do. Maybe he thought trying to wow her with materialistic stuff might work but clearly it didn’t.

What were your first impressions of Georgia?

She’s a very, very lovely girl. Very down-to-earth and switched on. We’re not very similar at all. She’s not someone I’d date in real life.

You were only there for a short amount of time but did you notice any stand-out connections?

I like Courtney. Right from the very start there were flowers blossoming. They kind of hit it off right away, you could see that. So my money is on him to win!

Georgia won praise for her down-to-earth ways on the first episode of The Bachelorette.
